Parallels in Betrayal: The Red Wedding and the Heworth Moor Conflict

In my articles, I have not offered a formula for decoding George RR Martin’s fantasy but made some assumptions that might be true. George R.R. Martin would have to hold a press conference to determine whether I or other authors who have attempted to do so are correct. He would have to inform his audience where he gathered his sources for the story he still tells us. But Martin will never say precisely what his sources of inspiration were. Tolkien did not either, and neither does another major writer today. This type of secrecy is a common practice among authors, as it protects the creative integrity of the story. It also allows readers to interpret the story without the author’s influence.

All we can do is compare events from „Game of Thrones” to real historical events. Even if we get it wrong, we are still at an advantage because we remember events long forgotten or never known. The exercise is challenging and valuable to me.

So, another parallel can be drawn between the Red/Bloody Wedding (you know, the one in which Catelyn and Robb Stark lost their lives) and the events that took place at a particular Neville wedding at Heworth Moor, Yorkshire. At that wedding, the Duke of York’s army massacred the Neville…
